BAKING WITH YOUR KIDS FOR MOTHER'S DAY

Mother's day is right around the corner, literally and with those busy schedules, why not making mom a gift that she will treasure and for the rest an experience to remember. Cooking is an act of love. Think about all the effort that goes into making that dish: time, buying ingredients, cooking, cooling down, and plating it.

I know cooking with kids is not an easy task, but trust me on this one: they will behave and enjoy it so so much that I bet it will not be the last one! And the cleaning... well, make an activity out of it. Why it needs to be over? Hand the towel or broom to the kiddos and get them to clean.

When you cook with your kiddos besides the actual cooking there is so soooo much learning that can take place. Think about it: scaling the ingredients, mixing, changing in structure, the science behind it, language, math, patience, conversation.

For this Mother's Day we are giving you two recipes that are a hit for the kids and parents. They are easy to make, few steps, basic ingredients, and great results.

Read the recipe, look around your kitchen for the ingredients and utensils, role your sleeves, get your kids, and let the fun begin.

Sugar cookies

Makes: 15 cookies
Prep time: 45 mins (only 15 active) Cook time: 15 mins

INGREDIENTS

280 gr All-purpose flour (2 cups)

200 gr Butter unsalted(1 3/4 stick)

100 gr Powder sugar (1/2 cup)

1 u Egg

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 330 F. Line to baking pans with parchment paper or silicone mat.

Using a stand mixer (you can use a hand mixer and a medium bowl as well) mix the flour, powder sugar, and butter. You will see that the mix becomes like sand, you will want all butter lumps to be integrated. Add the egg until one piece of dough forms. Roll the dough in-between two pieces of parchment paper. Place it in the freezer for 15 minutes. (This is a great moment to encourage your kids to start cleaning while waiting for cooling)

Use cookie cutters to cut into desire shape, place on baking pan.

Bake for 15- 20 minutes. You will want the edge to get golden. Remove from oven and place on cooling rack without the tray for a good 30 mins. Once it cooled down you can decorate cookies with fondant, or mixing powder sugar and water. This is called a glaze, with the use of food coloring you could make multiple color and let your kids decorate the cookies.
